N. 1 Please comment as soon as you can

How is the situation with your other online courses?

In COMMENTS: Follow this format:

1) list of courses you are currently taking online - Department and title; and if the title is meaningless ("Topics in contemporary thought") give it a better title.

2) Repeat course TITLE and give a very quick assessment of how it is done: asynchronous, synchronous, video-audio meet, video lectures etc.

3) How do you rate the experience and what should be done to make it better.

I am encountering several problems with students who did not want to take an online course, who must share a weak connection with brothers and sisters who are also in school, or who have conflicts of time with siblings etc.

Please answer quickly, the sooner the better.

1- kidlit: asynchronous Blackboard assignments. Midterm cancelled, final will be emailed essay, presentations are now on Discussion Board in audio file or text form. The required in-person meeting will be a video call instead.
2 & 3: irish and tragedy (same professor, same approach): video lectures and emailed open-book quizzes. Midterm and final will be emailed essays.

Since these are all English courses, they haven't changed much (the midterm/final plan is actually pretty standard for a normal semester). The only potential issue I see is the reliance on other students' posting in time to reply, but so long as everyone does their part there should be no major problems.

I've never taken an online course so it's all new to me. I will say that the fact that I can't directly talk to my professor or have them teach the material in person is an annoyance because I personally believe that I learn best in person. There is some confusion and still some unknowns in regards to how my labs will work but Im assuming they're will be more clarity as time goes by.

Ive never taken an online class and I'm not a fan so far. I learn best face to face because It allows me to ask in depth questions without confusion. The one class I took yesterday wasn't effective because the professor was moving too fast through his slides and wasn't giving anyone a chance to digest the material. I hope as the semester continues, there is a better system. I'd rather be given work that has to be turned in on a certain date rather than sign into an online class during specific scheduled times.

    1. Thanks for addressing the issue "asynchronous" (with deadlines) or "live" (scheduled meets or video lectures.)

  5. I don't have a problem with Online Courses or Classes. I'm able to complete an online class I'm presently doing at the moment. If I can get your assignment asap I'll try to comprehend and complete. Thank you and be safe.

Both my Classics class and my philosophy courses upload pre-recorded videos that substitute for a lecture and are accompanied by slides. My English professor uses zoom video conferencing and then schedules online assignments. Personally, I prefer my English teacher's style, since it mimics a physical classroom setting the most.

    1. was already an online course. lectures are recorded and powerpoints are put up weekly. We also have weekly discussions boards. It requires students to have proper time management skills. you can go along on your own pace but you would have to mindful of the given deadlines for posts and/or assignments.

2,3, & 4 were initally lecture courses. We're now incorporating blackboard into our online portion. attendance isnt required for those who may lack adequate internet access. so presentations are still posted online after. (I think your able to save the sessions in Blackboard Ultra). Our assignments are still due on their origninal dates. The only major difference is I believe they plan on changing is the test formats. Some of my professors want to make the exams more "difficult" to ensure concepts are understood, considering by default everything is technically an open book test/exam now .

I personally don't mind any of the styles. I can adapt pretty well to any one of them honestly. using blackboard ultra gives us the ability to feel like were still in an lecture we can ask questions during the moment etc, but leaving the option of others to look solely at the PPTs on their own time allows each person to lean towards what is easier for them.

  8. 1. CISC- Intro to Computer Applications
We met in person for this class but all the work was on computers so there is not really a difference now that we went online.
    2. ANTH- Human Origins
Lectures are recorded on the powerpoint slides, we have to answer 2 discussion board posts a week and summarise the readings assigned.
    3. Music language history and culture -
I never liked this class and now that it is online, I dislike it even more. I prefered when the professor explained to us what she was talking about, now it is just assignments.
